Have you ever consciously unconscious about where you are? I mean you are walk and talk and then somehow you realized that you are somewhere, hundreds miles away from where you'd thought you will be. It happen to me sometime.. a little time that strike me back to think and reflect.
I was in 8th floor Bangkok Hotel, 5 o clock in the afternoon, want to get some food. Passed after a busy hot day, I refreshed by a good bath. I walk into the lift to reach the 1st floor to get to my Mentor that waiting there. Suddenly, my friend come. I let her come in and closed the lift door. We have a nice chit chat about the day passed.. Interrupted by a call... my Mentor called me ,''hey where are you? Did you go outside for food? I'm still in the lobby waiting.'' Yes..I indeed still in the lift.. at the exact floor for 5 minutes or more... I had gone nowhere... x)
Another time I want to go to church in the lazy Sunday morning in my home city. Prepared well, I took my motorcycle and ride it. I came out from my homeside street into the bigger one and in a second a Pick Up car mount a Solar PV pass in front of me. Yeah I started think of it... think of my sun energy application.. marketing.. employee turn-over.. and I found myself in the wrong way, about 5 miles away from where I had to be if I ride on the right direction.. I was late for a Mass so I just go back and sleep again :P
Latest story... I had a company tour in a very huge consumers goods company near my city.. my group was guided by some management level employee. We are walk around their good and big workshop, until in a second we found ourselves stuck in the closed corner. The one look like a guide leader said to his friend, "hey here are closed.." his friend answer, "surely closed, I was tought you will take our guest to see some part stocked inthe corner" the other fellow said, " if you know that will be no wayout, why you insist following?" and the answer is, "how could I know it?" we are laughing and turn back :D
Those three stories definitely a simple and easy stories.. but when I try to analogue it with the real business and organizational situation, especially in leadership, it will be a good example of wrong Goal Setting and Achievement. In the bigger scale, this mistake will cause many effect in the businessmen, employee, investor, or everybody else connected life.
Anyhow.. lesson learned out of these situations:
If you want to "go somewhere" especially if yo will get it together with more than you yourself, you need to:
- Formulate your goal ( it will be better if your goal is Specific-Measurable-Achievable-Reliable-Timely).
- Make a plan, or at least identify your "turn key" step. Made milestone is better...
- You have to be conscious! Knowing that sometimes world blind us with dark and light... it will be better for us to do evaluation in the optimum point (Stop-Think-Plan-Do).. do coordination in the optimum interval and keep the spirit of brotherhood and truth.
- Let all your troops now your goal and guide lines... and don't forget to empower them in doing so.
The nasty question is: had you any goal for your LIFE? :D:D:D
It's not easy, it's dynamic, but anyway "the only easy day is yesterday" and "there is nothing easy for the unwilling"
Have a good one!
